The Institute for Natural Medicine is piloting an innovative new model for Naturopathic Primary Care Residency with a sustainable approach to funding.  Each residency region is based around an accredited Naturopathic Medical College.  The funding for the residency region is drawn from a combination of the host school, select nearby clinics serving as residency sites, and private or corporate support.

With the success of this model, new residency slots could expand rapidly throughout the United States, significantly increasing additional hands-on, practical training opportunities available to new NDs.

For Prospective Residency Sites

The INM Residency Program is a two year, CNME-approved program with a multi-payer funding model which significantly reduces the financial burden to each participating clinic.

A successful clinic that will receive funding must have a naturopathic primary care focus and provide the resident with mentorship in all aspects of a successful practice including leadership, clinical practice management, and additional preceptorships to augment the clinical training of the resident.

This site application is a competitive process and will be evaluated by a committee comprised of representatives from the CNME-accredited naturopathic schools.

If you have a successful practice with broad patient base, we would be very interested in receiving your application.

For Prospective Residents

An INM residency will focus on training in all aspects of a successful ND practice, including medical support, office tasks, billing, leadership, business training, and most importantly, mentoring, shadowing, and casework as a naturopathic physician.

Along with clinical duties, you will also receive business mentorship and complete a Business Growth Project meant to increase business in your host clinic.

This is a 2-year position with the expectation that, upon successful completion, the Resident will be prepared to join an existing practice or to begin their own practice or business.

Residents are paid a base salary based on CNME guidelines. Second-year residents receive a raise, and all Residents receive compensation for health care and 2 weeks paid vacation.

Residents are part of a cohort and attend Quarterly Academic Seminars, which are hosted by INM and which feature education from top NDs and businesses around central themes.

All INM Resident host clinics use the AANMC match process to fill open residency positions to ensure a fair and competitive process in resident selection. To learn more and find a list of INM host clinics, please visit the AANMC website and search using the keyword “INM”.

IRC DEI Statement

The Institute for Natural Medicine’s Residency Consortium (IRC) recognizes that health equity can only be achieved by meaningfully addressing the social determinants of health that contribute to health disparities in our communities. Each person possesses intersecting identities based on, but not limited to, their age, racial, ethnic, religious, sexual, gender, socioeconomic, and physical dis/abilities. The clinics of the IRC strive to provide comprehensive whole person healthcare that honors the diversity of traditions, cultures, and ways of life within the human experience. We believe that awareness of how these factors interact with one another is the most effective way to provide a quality educational environment for our residents and equitable and comprehensive healthcare access for our patients.

As a consortium, we reaffirm that the foundations of whole health and integrative medicine are inseparable from the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive for our clinics to be anti-racist institutions that acknowledge the structural inequities in our society and, in particular, our healthcare system. By promoting holistic practices, whole person health care, natural health, and integrative medicine, we seek to meaningfully contribute to a society that equitably supports the health of all people.

In our work, we seek to elevate the voices of historically marginalized groups. We consider accessibility as a significant factor when developing protocols and standards. We commit to considering diversity and cultural backgrounds when reviewing site applications.

The IRC is committed to adapting and collaborating across systems to empower all people in their health, including communities of color, indigenous populations, LGBTQIA2S+ Americans, and other historically marginalized and underserved communities.
